Morning Prayer Guide - Friday

Begin by praying the Collect for Grace and Collect for Purity.

Lord God, almighty and everlasting Father, you have brought us safely to this new day: Preserve us with your mighty power, that we may not fall into sin, nor be overcome by adversity; and in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hidden: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we might perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Read: 2 Corinthians 13:5-10 and Psalm 145:1-8

Are you in the faith?  Test yourself.  Are you really following Jesus, or are you just pretending?  It is easy to grow tired and just sit down.  It is easy to give lip service to being a disciple while going through the motions.  We even manage to deceive ourselves into thinking that a whole list of things is what God wants when actually he doesn’t want us to do those things at all.

Have you given up?  Do you do all that you can do to be a good disciple?  Do you put your self aside and take up your cross daily?  Take some time to talk to God about this.  You may find the following prayer helpful:

Lord Jesus Christ, you stretched out your arms of love on the hard wood of the cross that everyone might come within the reach of your saving embrace: So clothe us in your Spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love, may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you; for the honor of your Name.  Amen.
