Begin by praying the Collect for Grace and Collect for Purity.
Collect for Grace:
Lord God, almighty and everlasting Father, you have brought us safely to this new day: Preserve us with your mighty power, that we may not fall into sin, nor be overcome by adversity; and in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Collect for Purity:
Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hidden: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we might perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Read: Psalm 146, Isaiah 33:1-9, and Matthew 15:21-31
Jesus was approached by this woman, who was apparently making a scene, because her son was sick and she wanted Jesus to heal him. “Sorry, can’t do it.” was Jesus’ first reply. He made a reference to her being a dog – an insulting comment – and that he wasn’t going to help her. But she recognized that Jesus had something that she needed, and she responded that all she wanted was a crumb of his mercy and power. Jesus, impressed by her faith, healed her son.
Sometimes God just wants us to ask. Sometimes God wants us to exercise the faith he has given us. Sometimes he want us to put it into his hands. We may not be worthy of receiving his gifts, but God forgives and sanctifies us.
Ask God for the things you need, even if you’re not worthy to receive them. Write your own prayer.
