Begin by praying the Collect for Grace and Collect for Purity.
Collect for Grace:
Lord God, almighty and everlasting Father, you have brought us safely to this new day: Preserve us with your mighty power, that we may not fall into sin, nor be overcome by adversity; and in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Collect for Purity:
Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hidden: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we might perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Read: Psalm 119:1-8, Leviticus 19:32-37, and Romans 3:21-31
We have nothing to boast about. Even if we manage to follow the law, if we mess up in one small area we’ve transgressed the whole thing. We’ve all fallen short of God’s glory. But fortunately it’s not the end of the world, because Jesus came to make up for our failures, to make us holy when we were unholy.
We’ve messed up. We’ve made mistakes. Take time to ask God’s forgiveness. You may find the following prayer helpful:
Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart. We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we might delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.
