Morning Prayer Guide - Monday

Monday, November 12, 2012
Begin by praying the Collect for Grace and Collect for Purity.

Collect for Grace:
Lord God, almighty and everlasting Father, you have brought us safely to this new day: Preserve us with your mighty power, that we may not fall into sin, nor be overcome by adversity; and in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Collect for Purity:
Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hidden: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we might perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Read: Psalm 94, Ruth 1, and 1 Timothy 5:1-8

Ruth was a widow at a time when being a widow was a bad thing.  She stayed with her mother-in-law, who was also a widow.  She made it clear to Naomi that she wasn’t going to leave her.

St. Paul told St. Timothy to take care of those who were widows.  Paul takes exception to those who are rich and “living it up”, but Timothy and his church were to care for those who truly had nothing.

Do you know any widows who are struggling?  Are they struggling financially?  Emotionally?  Physically?  How can you help?  Ask God to show you.  Write your own prayer.
