Begin by praying the Collect for Grace and Collect for Purity.
Collect for Grace:
Lord God, almighty and everlasting Father, you have brought us safely to this new day: Preserve us with your mighty power, that we may not fall into sin, nor be overcome by adversity; and in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Collect for Purity:
Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hidden: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we might perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Read: Psalm 13, Daniel 8:1-14, and Hebrews 10:26-31
Not obeying God can be a dangerous thing. While we don’t often like to talk about what happens when we go against God’s will, he tells his followers pretty plainly that if they choose to go their own way he will punish them. God is a jealous God.
There have been many times over the past year, particularly during Advent and Lent, where we have looked at our mistakes and failures. We have prayed for forgiveness many times. We are human, though, and we continue to make mistakes. As we learn, we also see that things we thought were just fine are actually not what God wants. We grow and mature into righteousness.
Follow God. If you do, he will bless you. If you do not, there are consequences. Ask God to help you be a better follower. Write your own prayer.
