Begin by praying the Collect for Grace and Collect for Purity.
Collect for Grace:
Lord God, almighty and everlasting Father, you have brought us safely to this new day: Preserve us with your mighty power, that we may not fall into sin, nor be overcome by adversity; and in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Collect for Purity:
Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hidden: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we might perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Read: Psalm 76, Ezekiel 29:1-12, and Revelation 11:15-19
St. John writes about the twenty-four elders who are seated around the throne and who fall and worship God. He records their song of praise.
In the midst of difficult or frightening times, the best thing we can do is worship God. Instead of reacting in fear, we should respond with praise. It is counter-intuitive. Our nature is fight or flight. Our nature is worry. But God wants us to learn how to choose him over our reactions.
Praise God. Sing a song – a favorite you already know, or a new one you make up as you go along. Sing it aloud, even if strangers are nearby. Focus your prayers on praising God.
