Begin by praying the Collect for Grace and Collect for Purity.
Collect for Grace:
Lord God, almighty and everlasting Father, you have brought us safely to this new day: Preserve us with your mighty power, that we may not fall into sin, nor be overcome by adversity; and in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Collect for Purity:
Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hidden: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we might perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Read: Psalm 19, Isaiah 61:1-7, and Romans 7:1-6
The prophet writes about a beautiful time, a time when things will be made better. Old wrongs will be made right. Life will be golden. The hungry will have food, the poor will find prosperity, the sick and injured will be healed, the ruins of Jerusalem will be rebuilt. Life will get better.
St. Paul also writes about a better life, although from his perspective, it’s already here. We’ve gotten out of our marriage to the law and death (because the law only leads to death, since no human can ever keep it perfectly) and are now able to live for God. The curse of death is broken. Good things are about to happen.
Take some time to pray about this. Thank God for making a way for you to walk with him. Thank him for sending Jesus to show us how to live. Write your own prayer.
